About us
The Institute of Environment, Climate and Development Sustainability (IECDS) (originally established as Environmental Protection and Management Services –EPMS in 1997) is a Tanzanian professional Research and training Institute specialized in Environment and Climate Change for Sustainable Development. Upon registration by the National Council for Technical Education, IECDS transitioned from the former Environmental Protection and Management Services which was working with various national and global partners in providing short course training, research, advice and policy studies in the area of climate change and environment.
The Institute is dedicated to working with the global community in addressing the increasing climate change and environmental challenges, through collaborative research, training, capacity-building support, policy advice, innovative and contemporary training opportunities and networking for sustainable development.
Establishment
IECDS started as Environmental Protection and Management Services (EPMS) that was established in 1997 by a group of high-level Tanzanian professionals to support the government's efforts to address national and global challenges in the area of Environmental Education, Research, Environmental and Social Impact Assessments, climate change, international environmental and climate change governance processes, environment pollution management and natural resources management with profound experience in both government and private sector services. IECDS is affiliated to EPMS but independently registered as a not for profit making training, research and development Institute under the Tanzanian company law.
National Recognition
In 2012, IECDS was registered and accredited by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) as a full-fledged training Institute to undertake Training, Research, Projects and Consultancy. Trainings include Long Coursers, Short Courses and Tailor-made courses, qualifying trainees for awarding Technical Certificates and Diplomas that are recognized by NACTVET and other globally recognized organizations. The Institute is also recognized by National Environment Management Council (NEMC) through its teaching and capacity support activities as well as participation in different environmental assemblies enabled by NEMC.
International Recognition
IECDS is the only Tanzanian training Institute in Eastern Africa accredited to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, Bonn Germany and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Secretariat, Geneva Switzerland with the global recognition in the environment and climate change training. IECDS is a member of the Global Network of High-Level Training and Research Institutions with its headquarters at the Centre for Natural Resources and Development (CNRD) in Cologne Germany. The Institute is also accredited by Green Climate Fund (GCF) as a technical observer organization.
Legal Status
IECDS is a registered Non-profit Organization, with Registration Number 263969 under the National Laws with legal proof from the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA). The institute is also registered, incorporated under the companies act, 2022 with registration number 100457 and accredited by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) with registration number REG/ANE/031 as a full-fledged training Institute to undertake Training, Research, Projects and Consultancy.
